Picsart Launches ‘SketchAI’ App Reimagining Your Doodles As Visionary AI Art
By Mikelle Leow, 06 Jan 2023
The common gripe these days is that artificial intelligence takes away the magic of creating something from scratch. Artists have it so easy now—without picking up a pencil, they can churn out masterpieces from nothing but a few keywords. For the many others who still cherish the art of making, well, art, Picsart has a solution that marries the best of both worlds.
The digital creation platform has launched ‘SketchAI’, a standalone app that converts your rough drawings or other visual prompts into compelling AI art. This way, you can continue to be the art director and conceptual artist of your work, while the tool brings the rest of the vision to life.
Lusine Harutyunyan, VP of Product at Picsart, says Picsart started out as a simple drawing app, so the release of SketchAI “feels like a full circle moment.”
“The ability to not only draw anything you want on a mobile device, but now turn that into a completely new work of art is something I never would have thought was possible,” Harutyunyan adds.
To put pen to paper and beyond, start out by creating a simple sketch on the SketchAI canvas. You can guide the algorithm along by entering a text description and selecting your preferred art style, such as an ink drawing, pencil sketch, or the styles of Leonardo da Vinci or Vincent van Gogh. SketchAI can also generate wholly new AI works from existing images in your camera roll.
After you’ve done your part of the process, SketchAI will complete the rest, dreaming up a few iterations of your doodle.
SketchAI joins Picsart’s growing ensemble of AI tools and assets, including an AI Image Generator and a font collection designed by a machine.
The new app—available for free for iPhones, iPads, and Macs—can now be installed on the Apple App Store.
