Alright, you might have noticed that such temperatures don’t exactly exist on Earth. Yet, this jacket can actually weather anything in the region of -345°F. This is because the maker of this innovative piece of clothing, Vollebak, designed it with not our planet in mind, but Saturn and its largest moon, Titan.
Although none of us will be making a trip to Titan any time soon, if something does go awry with the current climate, Vollebak is banking on the Titan Fleece Jacket to quite literally have your back.
What allows the coat to keep you from freezing out in space is the use of “ultra-warm” Polartec fleece on the inside. The fibers are crafted to trap heat in thermal air pockets to keep you extra toasty. On its outside, the brand employed a Dyneema fabric, the world’s strongest fiber.
Dyneema, for the uninitiated, is not a type of material you can pick up from your local craft store. Instead, it’s mainly found on the side of tanks and body armor, making it probably not an ideal fabric to snuggle up to. But in times of disaster, it might prove to be handy.
In order to make it soft to the touch, Vollebak uses the Dyneema in 3D circle patches that dot the coat. This also acts as a shield where anything touching the jacket will hit the Dyneema before it can come in contact with its wearer. The brand also touts it as a material that only gets stronger the worse conditions get. One example is that it can survive a high-speed fall and be dragged across concrete.
So, for all the doomsday preppers out there, the Titan Fleece Jacket is available on Vollebak’s site for US$1,232.
