Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, most famous for having been the co-founders of Instagram, are making their way back onto the scene with their latest creation—Artifact, a new social media platform that acts as a newsfeed to encourage discussions between users.
According to Gizmodo, the app will provide users with news content from a personalized and curated list of publishers, ranging from The New York Times and the Washington Post to articles from smaller, niche blogs.
Upon selecting a story, users’ feed will then learn of their preferences, similar to TikTok’s ‘For You’ page, thereafter suggesting similar articles, posts, and stories based on what it calculates the person may be interested in.
Krieger says in an Instagram post that the duo “have been working with a talented team” for over a year on the service, and while it will soon open to the public, the only way to get in now is to join a waitlist where users will be sent a text with the link to download and access the application.
At the moment, only a central ranked feed is available to users, but a beta version with more features—some of which could allow for commenting on others’ posts—may soon be launched as the service gains steam.
