Several weeks ago, OpenAI teased an “experimental” paid version of ChatGPT, opening a waitlist for artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasts to indicate their interest in the forthcoming professional model.
Now, an upgraded version of the popular chatbot—ChatGPT Plus—has finally debuted, allowing subscribers to make use of the software even during peak hours, with the promise of faster response times, and priority access to upgrades or new features.
At the moment, the premium service is only available to users in the United States, and as per Engadget, OpenAI plans to “gradually invite” users on the waitlist to subscribe to the paid version for US$20 per month.
Thanks to these subscribers, the company said it will be able to keep the stripped-down version of ChatGPT available to the public for free. It also plans to explore cheaper subscription plans, business plans, and data packs in the future.
“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” the company wrote in a blog post.
“Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates, and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use-cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and learning new topics.”
We’ll begin to invite people from the waitlist and will broaden availability beyond the US soon. Join the waitlist here: https://t.co/fd11x9mrG9
