LEGO Debuts Incredible 6,167-Piece ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Rivendell Set

LEGO is returning to Middle-earth with its latest magical, albeit belated, Lord of the Rings set.
This time, the toymaker is closing in on Rivendell, a focal setting in the J.R.R. Tolkien stories. There are reasons it took this long to conjure up the set. First of all, there were no elves around to expedite the process; and second of all, the build is a massive, 6,167-piece creation that faithfully echoes scenes in the Peter Jackson films.
The intricate diorama colorfully encapsulates areas like an elven tower—graced by five statues of unnamed warriors—Frodo’s bedroom with a desk and chest, the Council Ring, Elrond’s study with famous paintings of Middle-earth, and more.
No good Lord of the Rings replica is complete without LOTR characters. Luckily, there are 15, plus a variety of props to join them on their adventures. The set includes Gandalf the Grey, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Merriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck, Peregrin “Pippin” Took, Gimli, Boromir, Aragorn, and… wait for it… LEGOlas.
Stretching almost 30 inches wide, the model likely won’t fit onto your bookshelf. That’s why LEGO has split it into three sections, allowing you to introduce a touch of magic to various nooks and crannies in your room.
“We know many of our fans have been anticipating a set like this for a long time—but a great LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is never late; it arrives precisely when it means to!” teases LEGO Design Master Mike Psaiki.
“It was important to us that we created something really special in this recreation of Rivendell. We aimed to add as much detail as possible and create an engaging experience throughout the build to delight fans recreating scenes or proudly displaying Elrond’s home,” the designer elaborates. “We are really pleased with the final design and how we have brought Rivendell to life in brick form.”
The Rivendell recreation, ideal for builders aged 18 and up, will go on sale for US$499.99. The set will first be available to LEGO VIP members from March 5, before traveling online and to LEGO retailers from March 8.
