Google’s ‘Price Guarantee’ Flight Scanner Pays You Back If It Finds Better Deals

Searching for the cheapest flights can be a pain sometimes. You might stumble across a great deal and book your tickets excitedly, only to find something more affordable a little later. Google aims to stamp out the heartbreak of discovering better prices after you’ve entered your PIN with the new Google Flights feature.
 
The new system will scan through flight deals online for you and pull up the cheapest ones available. A ‘Price Guarantee’ badge on the page will pop up, letting you know that this is the lowest the price will go, so you can safely book that trip to Acapulco without pulling up 20 tabs and refreshing the pages a hundred times.

The best part is that if a cheaper offer does crop up, you will get back the difference via your Google Pay account. “We’ll monitor the price every day until departure, and if it does go down, we’ll send you back the difference via Google Pay,” the company stated in a blog post.
 
Of course, some boxes need to be ticked before that happens. One is that as the program is piloted in the US right now, only flights out of the country will be refunded. Second, you will only get your money if you travel with partner airlines that are part of the ‘Book on Google’ itineraries. And lastly, the difference in amounts must also be more than US$5, and you will only receive a maximum of US$500 back each year for a maximum of three bookings with the Price Guarantee.

Besides finding the best flight, you can also explore different hotels in the region you’re heading to via a new swipeable story format that will take you through the rooms and amenities.
