Bottega Veneta’s New $2.5K ‘Brown Paper Bag’ Packs Luxury Into The Mundane
By Nicole Rodrigues, 25 Apr 2023
Bottega Veneta’s latest brown paper bag-like creation is causing quite a stir in the fashion world. Don’t be fooled by its humble appearance, though; this one is anything but ordinary.
The carrier might look like something you would find some broccoli, cartons of milk, and eggs sticking out of, but instead, you are more likely to catch it in the arms of the more style-conscious in society.
One key feature that sets the Bottega Veneta Brown Bag apart is that it’s not actually made from paper. Instead, it’s crafted entirely from 100% calfskin leather à la Saint Laurent’s faux takeout boxes, making it a durable and long-lasting accessory. But the brand doesn’t shy away from its grocery store inspiration. Instead, the fashion label has incorporated subtle paper-like effects into the design, creating a unique texture that’s both familiar and unexpected.
And while the outside of the carrier might look like a humble brown paper sack, the interior is a different story altogether. The inside is lined with luxurious suede, adding a touch of sophistication and elegance to the overall design. Even the handles are staggered and wrapped to mimic the look and feel of a traditional paper bag.
A medium version of the bag is coming in at US$1,900, and the large will be sold at US$2,500, both of which can be found on the label’s website. For that price, one would hope it is durable enough to hold your belongings and groceries simultaneously.
