Spanish Automaker Unveils Virtual Supercar To Speed Through The Metaverse

Why should the thrill of speeding through the streets in a supercar be limited to the real world? That’s the question Spanish automaker Cupra is asking, as it has recently revealed a virtual sports car concept for the metaverse.
Dubbed the DarkRebel, the all-electric vehicle appeared through a hologram, featuring sleek, sci-fi-esque edges and a familiar athleticism of a sports car. Interestingly, the company says the car could become a reality in the next decade.
According to the carmaker, the project aims to push its boundaries to the maximum, taking on creativity not as a prediction of what’s to come in the future, but as a provocation—“showing that design is a dialogue, not a process.”
Keen-eyed supercar enthusiasts will notice the show car's radical and sharp front end, complete with a long, seemingly endless bonnet bearing an arrow shape that conveys the true feeling of speed while the cabin is pushed to the rear.
The brand even incorporated its signature triangular light icon in a new way, with the motif emerging from the body of the car as it comes “alive,” together with a central spine connecting the front and rear as the core skeleton of the vehicle.
Calling the creation a “driver-oriented car,” Cupra said that its radical interior is able to evolve with the asymmetric central spine. Its bucket seats and gamifying steering wheel and shifter make it seem like the human driver is one with the machine.
“After five years of building the brand Cupra in a nowadays world, it is time to think about the next step. Our next dream. The Cupra DarkRebel is the ultimate interpretation of our vision,” summed up Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra.
