Soon, notable supermodel Eva Herzigová could take to the runways in the digital realm as she becomes the world’s first ‘MetaHuman’—a hyper-realistic, 3D virtual human that brands can hire to front their campaigns within the metaverse.

The Czech fashion veteran lent her likeness to talent agency Unsigned and production agency Dimension Studio by participating in a 70-camera rig scan. Motion capture technology was then used to track the movement of her face and body to accurately portray her signature catwalk.

According to Dimension Studio, the team worked to ensure Herzigová’s exact likeness was captured, faithfully recreating her features in 3D before working together with the supermodel on how to style her digital twin with virtual clothing, hair, and make-up.

Going forward, brands can hire Eva’s MetaHuman to be re-dressed, restyled, posed, and lit, and her body and facial expressions animated to suit any campaign. In addition, her avatar can feature in real-time in virtual reality (VR) fashion shows, model digital wearables, or star in livestreams.

Herzigová described the experience of birthing her digital twin as “incredible,” explaining that it felt mother-like to create every aspect of her avatar—from her skin and bone structure to the way she moves, frowns, and smiles—and allowing those features to be changed at a flick of a mouse.

“My MetaHuman gets to go off to work, to be photographed and styled by the most incredible creative minds, today I can be in London, Paris, Milan, and New York, all whilst at home cooking dinner with my children,” she quipped.

Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, called the launch of the first MetaHuman a “groundbreaking moment in the fashion industry,” pointing out that the UK was leading the charge into “the future of digital fashion.” Take a look at Herzigová’s virtual identity in action below.
