Xbox Takes Gaming To The Beach With ‘Sunkissed Vibes’ Controller
By Nicole Rodrigues, 02 May 2023
Sun, sand, sea, and single-player games are on the menu for the summer from Xbox and its latest addition to its wireless controller lineup, the ‘Sunkissed Vibes’ OPI special edition.
The controller itself acts just as any other on Microsoft’s website does. However, it’s bathed in a soft and sweet orange that looks a lot like a cool and freezing creamsicle—the kind that melts just right on a hot summer’s day.
The color is accompanied by a coral direction pad, and bright turquoise joysticks and backing that add a burst of contrast and would fit alongside a seashell collection.
The hues were picked from OPI’s Summer Make the Rules collection, which features 51 shades of beach-worthy nail varnish. While it isn’t a particularly new concept for beauty and gaming brands to collide in a whimsical iteration of one of their products, the unique color choices make it a must-have for surf-loving gamers who love to catch the tide and their enemies in their spare time.
Engadget attempted to recreate the unique shade of orange and blue using Xbox’s custom gamepad platform, Xbox Design Lab. However, it was unable to quite capture the delicious creamsicle hue.
The tech world largely sticks to darker tones and neon reds and greens for accents that give these peripherals a little rougher edge. That’s all good; however, it’s nice to see softer shades and a broader color palette enter the gaming arena, which could fit right into any beach bum’s video game collection.
You can kickstart the summer season now by pre-ordering the controller for US$69.66.
