Mark Zuckerberg’s Latest Passion Project Is 3D-Printing Dresses For His Children

When stitching the metaverse gets hard, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg likes to retreat to his pastimes. His newest side passion, it seems, is fashion design.
In particular, Zuckerberg 3D-prints clothing for his daughters, as the billionaire has announced on Instagram. In one photo, he shows that he’s designed a lime green triangle-patterned outer dress for one of his kids. Another shot reveals a turquoise chainmail dress donned by another daughter.
“I love building things, and recently started designing and 3D-printing dresses with the girls,” the Meta boss shares.
“And yes, I had to learn to sew,” Zuckerberg proclaims.
For someone who famously wears the same plain gray T-shirt all the time, it’s a refreshing sight that he’s experimenting with color during his free time.
Not only that, but the designs also kind of embody Issey Miyake’s Bao Bao and fit right into the chic, summery basket aesthetic à la Loewe bags. Eva Chen, director of fashion partnerships at Instagram, applauds that the dresses are “Met Gala-ready.”
In the comments, the Zuck elaborates that the outfits were produced on Prusa 3D printers using carbon fiber and polylactic acid (PLA), and that they each “took hours of manual labor” to finish.
The outcomes are “pretty light—maybe a couple of pounds,” Zuckerberg details.
Notably, Zuckerberg has been 3D-printing clothing for his children for about a year, at least. Last summer, he showed off a pink helmet that he’d made as part of a full suit for his daughter.
Dressmaking is just one of Zuckerberg’s long string of hobbies. He’s also known to enjoy learning new languages and surfing, among many other things. Once, he even crafted a calming alarm clock for his wife, Priscilla Chan.
What do you think of his latest handiwork? Would you say yes to the dress(ses)?
