Nickelodeon Resurrects The ‘Splat’ In Cheerful Brand Refresh To Let Kids Be Kids
By Mikelle Leow, 09 May 2023
While most others today are cleaning up their brands, Nickelodeon is brazenly leaving its mark by bringing back the ‘Splat’. Believe it or not, this part of the network’s character retired in 2009, leaving only the name in its wake.
Nickelodeon’s first brand refresh in 14 years rekindles nostalgic splotches of its heritage, like the Splat logo, but with a modernized feel for a new audience.
Kicking off the new chapter is a Portal to Fun launch campaign that imagines the Splat as a gateway to fun experiences. The first of this series is the Quartet hero film, which also gives a fresh spin to the unforgettable jingle: “Nick, nick, nick, nick, na-nick, nick, nick, Nick-e-lo-de-on!”
Joining the party, of course, is the quintessential green slime.
Nickelodeon has also roped in six US and international animation houses to reflect the exuberant new identity with beloved characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, PAW Patrol, Blue’s Clues, Baby Shark, The Loud House, and Monster High.
Over at Nickelodeon, mess is more. Explaining the revamp, Sabrina Caluori, EVP of global kids and family marketing at Nickelodeon and Paramount, details that the “core DNA” of the brand—and its celebration of “the mess of being a kid”—still strikes a chord with viewers of today.
The refresh began making a splash in the US on May 8, and it is set to debut in the UK in July, before blotting the rest of the world with its presence over the rest of the year.
