Elon Musk Finds New Twitter CEO, Here’s Who Might Be Taking Over
By Nicole Rodrigues, 12 May 2023
Just seven months after Elon Musk took over Twitter, he is now getting ready to find a new CEO to take over the business. Since buying over the company, Musk has maintained that he does not intend to remain CEO for long, and would eventually transition out of the position and hand it over to someone else. After months of reforming the platform over and over again, it seems like he is now ready to leave it in the hands of someone new.
The news first came from Musk’s Twitter account, citing that he had found someone for the role and that “she” would be starting the job in approximately six weeks.
Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks!

My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.
The “she” in question had left many wondering who could be in the running to take up the role, but as The Wall Street Journal first reported, it seems like it might be going to NBCUniversal’s Linda Yaccarino.
Yaccarino has been the advertising sales leader for the networking house for over 10 years. According to the same report, Yaccarino has been a critical figure in the industry, advocating for more effective advertising measures. She also played a significant role in the launch of the network’s Peacock streaming site.
Her background in marketing could come in handy with Twitter’s recent saga of losing companies after beginning to charge for its APIs. Microsoft most notably left the platform and has even stopped offering users on its advertising platform access to Twitter.
Axios cites a source who told the publication that Musk and Yaccarino had been in talks about her impending takeover for a few weeks. Not only that, but the two have been spotted at several events and conferences of late. In addition, NBCUniversal and Twitter also renewed their video partnership ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
What could that mean for Musk if she took up the position? In the same tweet, he noted that his new role will relegate him to being executive chairman and chief technical officer, where he will oversee product, software, and system operations.
