Google Makes Its Text-To-Music Generator Available For Public

Google has just released a new artificial intelligence generator that lets you create your music whenever possible. ‘MusicLM’ is an experimental tool going up for public testing on its AI Test Kitchen app—Google’s go-to domain for bringing innovations to the public before release.

The generator takes in requests such as “ambient, soft-sounding music I can study” or “two nylon string guitars playing in flamenco style.” So whatever you’re craving to hear, just put the prompt in and let it produce music suited for your needs and environment.

After you’ve fed in your request, you will receive two songs; from there, you can choose which one you like best and give it a trophy to help the machine learn.

According to TechCrunch, MusicLM does not use specific artists or vocals. Instead, it works more like ambient background noise that you can finetune to your liking.

Google’s announcement blog post wrote that musicians and hosting workshops helped the tech company learn how artists can integrate MusicLM into the creative process.

There has been a growing trend of copyright issues in the music industry. For example, after Universal Music noticed suspicious activities regarding these pieces, Spotify pulled down thousands of songs created by AI that had been uploaded to the platform. On the other hand, a scammer who created fake AI Frank Ocean songs has just been caught making money off of selling the songs.

TechCrunch also points out a whitepaper by Eric Sunray, who argued that MusicLM trains itself on existing music from real artists. Right now, there is no way to tell if this is true, but as more and more entities are harping down on such infringement issues, there could be word soon enough on whether such generators are safe to use.
