Burger King Ad Shows Kids Confused Over Its Plant-Based Products
By Nicole Rodrigues, 18 May 2023
Burger King’s latest advertisement campaign, Confusing Times, takes a unique approach by featuring children asking thought-provoking questions about life. Created in collaboration with advertising agency DAVID Madrid, the campaign showcases kids going about their everyday activities while pondering the mysteries of the world.
For instance, one child wonders why buildings are so tall when they are only two years old, highlighting their curiosity about time and growth. Another kid questions whether a cookie jar can still be considered a cookie jar if it doesn’t contain any cookies.
Lastly, one wonders whether Whoppers are still Whoppers if they aren’t made of meat. The question emphasizes the evolving nature of food choices and the increasing popularity of plant-based alternatives.
In one particular scene, a young girl observes her father enjoying one of Burger King’s vegan options, which prompts her to wonder about how realistic it would taste. This scene underscores the growing desire for plant-based foods to provide an experience comparable to their traditional counterparts.
Burger King taps into the universal appeal of innocence, curiosity, and genuine inquiry. The campaign suggests that sometimes, adults may overlook these questions or dismiss them as trivial, but they can lead to important reflections and to embrace exploring new possibilities.
Saulo Rocha, CCO at DAVID Madrid stated, “We’re having so much fun exploring and stretching this boundless creative platform for Burger King’s plant-based category and products. Looking at confusion from a child’s perspective, and working with children for this chapter, was both very exciting and very challenging.”
