Tommy Hilfiger & Disney Waltz In With A Collection Starring Manga-Style Mickey
By Nicole Rodrigues, 05 Jun 2023
It’s Disney’s centennial this year, and so far, it has kicked off with a myriad of collaborations with various brands to mark the last 100 years of its animation studio. Continuing with its latest pairing with fashion house Tommy Hilfiger, the new clothing line looks at Mickey Mouse through a different lens.
The Disney x Tommy collection centers around a manga-inspired Mickey dotted through a range of collegiate-style clothes, while sticking true to Tommy Hilfiger’s preppy aesthetic and red, white, and blue color scheme.
Mickey is joined by his other pals, Minnie, Pluto, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy, in artistic drawings and manga-like panels and sketches on t-shirts, blazers, chinos, rugby shirts, bags, and more.
Per WWD, the Disney artists behind the collection looked to signature manga hallmarks such as the three lines used on a character’s face to depict a bashful or innocent expression seen throughout. Straight lines were also used more prominently when drawing up these beloved characters to evoke a more two-dimensional feeling instead of their typical 3D animated style.
Mickey and friends can be seen gracing 94 menswear and womenswear pieces and 42 different kids’ items. The range even includes 14 adaptive designs, which consist of dresses and other clothes with magnetic closures for easy access for those with limited mobility.
The collection will be available for just one season, and fans can find the pieces online at Tommy Hilfiger and at shopDisney, and at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Prices range from US$34.90 to US$449.
