Apple Vision Pro Launch Inspires Tragically Dystopian Memes In This Reality
By Mikelle Leow, 07 Jun 2023
Apple’s long-anticipated mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, has finally manifested itself into the physical realm. It’s the most radical product the brand has unleashed in a long time, running on a wholly new and unfamiliar operating system called visionOS.
The goggles, powered by the M2 chip, feature a 4K screen for each eye and are built on something called ‘Spatial Computing’, which projects entertainment, productivity, and communication activities into a three-dimensional space laid out in front of your eyes. Apple says you can immersively play games and films with the AR/VR device, as well as create a powerful, portable workspace.
All this comes at a price, of course. The Apple Vision Pro, which will only be available in early 2024, will set users back a cool, cool US$3,499.
Even without the state-of-the-art eyewear in their hands, Apple users have proven to possess ultra-high-definition foresight. On Twitter, they’ve imagined how the Vision Pro might be used in the future… and it looks a little bleak, like a Black Mirror episode.
