Twitter’s New CEO, Linda Yaccarino, Officially Gets To Work
By Mikelle Leow, 07 Jun 2023
The former Chief Twit is no more, and ascending the throne is Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO of Twitter.
Yaccarino announced the commencement of her new role on Monday, tweeting: “First day in the books! Stay tuned…”
In her previous professional life, Yaccarino led advertising sales at NBCUniversal. Her optimistic first message as Twitter head belies a rocky road ahead—with the social network’s advertising revenue dipping 59% year-to-date, she has the gargantuan task of pulling its numbers around.
Yaccarino’s takeover arrives roughly three weeks ahead of when her predecessor Elon Musk had projected her coming on board.
It remains unclear what her plans for Twitter 2.0 will be, but she’s currently driving home the brand’s association with the blue bird. In announcing that she’s enlisted her former coworker at NBCUniversal, Joe Benarroch, Yaccarino welcomed him “to the flock” and said it was “time to fly.”
In a statement posted during the weekend, Benarroch wrote: “Tomorrow, I start a different professional adventure at Twitter, taking on a role focusing on business operations. I am looking forward to bringing my experience to Twitter, and to working with the entire team to build Twitter 2.0 together.”
Musk will remain in the company as executive chairman and chief technology officer, where he will oversee “product, software, and sysops.”
The former Twitter boss previously said that, under the new leadership, the social network would hopefully become an “everything app.”
It happened — first day in the books!
