UK Contemplates New Law To Label All AI-Generated Photos & Videos

Like many, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak believes artificial intelligence will “reshape every aspect” of people’s lives. And yes, while he sees the opportunities it may bring, he also anticipates how dangerous things can get if you leave it in the wrong hands, like the creation of malicious deepfakes.

Sunak’s government is now considering new guardrails to moderate this explosive territory, beginning with legislation to mandate the clear labeling of all AI-generated photos and videos, according to a report by The Times.

Sunak hopes this law won’t just be rolled out nationally but also inspire similar moves overseas to regulate AI worldwide. Per the report, the Prime Minister will outline his plans at a global safety summit in the fall.

In the same vein, the government has also assembled a British AI safety agency, who will monitor more popular and powerful AI models to ensure they don’t step out of line and cause something “catastrophic,” says The Times.
