Feeling Itchy? Pizza Chain Serves First-Ever Pie Meant To Repel Mosquitoes
By Alexa Heah, 30 Jun 2023
To commemorate the start of summer and the Canada Day holiday, Pizza Pizza is introducing its latest menu item—and it’s certainly creating a lot of buzz. Aptly dubbed the Buzz Off Pizza, this is the world’s first-ever pie specifically designed to ward off pesky mosquitoes.
Thankfully, the pizza isn’t loaded with insecticide or mosquito coils, but rather, a slew of delicious ingredients that are believed to repel the pests naturally. This includes garlic, tomatoes, hot peppers, and onions.
According to the chain, the idea of the mosquito-repellent pizza stemmed from recent reports that the insects would be even more of a hindrance this year. And knowing families typically spend holiday weekends out in the sun, how better than to keep these biters at bay?
Adrian Fuoco, vice-president of marketing at Pizza Pizza, told AdForum that Canadians “know firsthand” that shooing away mosquitoes is a chore. As such, the Buzz Off Pizza is the perfect way to ensure everyone has a “fantastic pizza-filled long weekend … except mosquitoes.”
This isn’t the first time Pizza Pizza has worked with the creative agency Zulu Alpha Kilo on a creative approach to everyone’s favorite dish. Previously, the duo created a paint roller specifically to spread dip on a pie.
