The Royal Mint has unleashed its force to create Star Wars coins, as part of the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, which first hit theaters in 1983.
Coming to a galaxy near you are four official coins to mark the third installment of the original Star Wars trilogy. To capture the light side of the franchise, the UK coin maker owned by His Majesty’s Treasury worked with experienced coin designer Ffion Gwillim and the Walt Disney Company to faithfully reimagine the works of George Lucas onto precious pieces of metal.
Leading the rollout is a coin fronted by R2-D2 and C-3PO, who are seen inside the Millennium Falcon.
A lenticular feature on the design makes Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s home planet, and the Rebel Alliance Starbird emblem prominent under various angles of lighting.

The rest of the series will feature iconic pairings like Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, and Han Solo and Chewbacca. Each style will be produced using traditional minting methods and modern technology for a vivid interpretation of the faraway galaxy.
In the case of the first coin, the Royal Mint has created a vibrant version portraying R2-D2 and C-3PO in color.

The other side of the coin retains the profile of King Charles III, officially combining the forces of two worlds.
