Twitter Teases Potential Voice And Video-Call Features Coming To The Platform
It’s no secret that Twitter has been floundering. Soon after the social media platform decided to limit the number of tweets users could view daily, Meta launched its own version of the text-based application: Threads.
The former isn’t backing down just yet. After Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Twitter for the first time in over a decade to poke fun at the similarities between the two sites, a lawsuit was filed against Threads over this likeness.
Now, in what could be an attempt to lure users back to the application, Twitter designer Andrea Conway teased a first look at upcoming voice and video call features that could soon be added to the platform.

In a sneak peek, Conway tweeted screenshots of how the features could appear paired with “ring ring” as the caption. In the images, it appears that users will be able to select a phone icon to start either an audio call or a video call from Direct Messages.
At the bottom of the video call screen, individuals can access a volume slider, microphone, camera, and “end-call” button during the session.

Fret not, if you’re already panicking about unsolicited calls from your throngs of followers. Conway explained in the replies that settings will be available to limit who can or cannot make these audio and video calls, so users won’t have to worry about being brigaded by a series of non-stop requests from those they’re not too keen to speak to.
As exciting as these new features may be, will the additions be able to draw users back to Twitter? If anything, it’s no wonder the platform is acting fast, considering how Threads has amassed 70 million sign-ups just days after its launch.
