YSL’s ‘The Vintage’ Line Might Be The Most Expensive Band Merch You Can Buy
By Nicole Rodrigues, 19 Jul 2023
Band merchandise is sometimes considered by fans as a right to wear. If you’re seen sporting the digs from your favorite musicians, other die-hard fanatics might ask the age-old question, “Can you even name every album they’ve ever produced?” You know, to deem your worthiness. A new question that Saint Laurent is posing is, “Do you have $4,000 for this band t-shirt?”
As part of Saint Laurent Rive Droite— a section dedicated to home goods, accessories, and some of the most expensive band merchandise around—a new collection under the name ‘The Vintage’ is honoring various artists with some luxury t-shirts.
The range includes a shirt featuring of Nirvana’s famous Smiley Face for a lower cost of US$990, an In Utero tee for US$2,690, one dedicated to the MTV Unplugged In New York album for US$1,370—and the reason you probably clicked on this article, original Incesticide merchandise for US$4,450.
With that amount back in the 90s, you could have probably bought tickets to several shows the band had while on tour.
Other shirts in the collection include a US$1,190 Elvis Presley tee and a Cranberries version for US$890.
Highsnobiety points out that you could probably find all of the original shirts on eBay. And if you're really in a pinch, fast-fashion stores like H&M and Forever 21 usually carry copies of the merchandise thanks to a trend in the 2010s where wearing band t-shirts were cool, whether you could name all of a musician’s albums or not.
Although, if you do go to these places, you might not get the same quality that Saint Laurent’s price tags promise.
And if you’re wondering if anyone would buy these, never doubt a hardcore music fan or trendsetter as a number of pieces from the line seem to be sold out.
