‘Barbie’ Costume Designer Joins ThredUp To Launch Non-Fast Fashion #Barbiecore
For those coveting the outfits in Barbie, here’s the chance. Academy Award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran has teamed up with second-hand online retailer ThredUp on an exclusive #Barbiecore shop where fans can snag Barbie-esque garments sustainably.
As WWD pointed out, it’s not the first time fashion enthusiasts are replicating the doll’s iconic style, though the category’s popularity has certainly reached new heights with the hype surrounding the film’s release.
Shoppers can browse nearly 300 pre-loved tops, dresses, accessories, and more chosen by Durran that’ll fit right into the Malibu Dreamhouse aesthetic. This launch hopes to encourage fans to experiment with fashion in a way that’s eco-friendly and doesn’t create more fashion waste.
The designer explained her passion for “reimagining the old” and transforming it into new items, which is why she hopped on board the 100% second-hand #Barbiecore collection, remarking that she found it amazing that there were countless options that matched the particular style.
