Nude ‘Oppenheimer’ Scene Covered Up With CGI Dress In Some Parts Of The World

Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan has proudly proclaimed that there are “zero” CGI shots in the film. However, when push comes to shove, it seems like some movie magic may be necessary.
According to Variety, some foreign theaters are airing a censored variation of an intimate scene between Jean Tatlock (played by Florence Pugh) and J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy). In the original version, Pugh’s Tatlock, a psychiatrist and a Communist Party member, is topless and talking to her lover in a hotel room.
That’s not what audiences in India and the Middle East are shown. Instead, they get a more modest view of Pugh in a black, computer-generated dress. Well, as it is often said, a little black dress goes with everything… even nude scenes.

The pair share numerous such moments in this dark, historical nuclear film, making Oppenheimer the first to ever shoot full nudity sex scenes on IMAX, per the report.
In other alterations of suggestive scenes, Pugh’s face is zoomed into and her back is blurred.
Nolan previously stressed that the intimate scenes were important as they helped audiences get a better grip of the relationship between the characters. This potentially explains why those parts have been edited instead of being removed altogether from more conservative markets.
In India, Oppenheimer has been modified to meet the nation’s U/A film certification requirements, which permit movies to “contain moderate adult themes that [are] not strong in nature and can be watched by a child below 12 years of age under parental guidance.”
