For once, we’re the doll-sized ones in Barbie’s eyes.
A marketing stunt launched in tandem with the release of Greta Gerwig’s meta comedy film has confounded fans around the world. Created by UAE content creation agency Eye Studio, it imagines a larger-than-life version of the ever-optimistic protagonist stepping out of her pink Mattel packaging, which is positioned next to Dubai’s most iconic landmark.
The CGI vision depicts Barbie in a retro black-and-white swimsuit and cat-eye sunglasses, traversing between the Barbie world and the real world. She is not much shorter than the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building ever.

A giant Barbie, who turns out to be Margot Robbie, also appears in the film.

To reiterate, this animation is digitally generated, so you won’t be craning your neck for a view of the character if you’re visiting Dubai anytime soon. That’s might as well, as some have billed the illusion as “terrifying.”
With that, the original clip has raked in more than 3.5 million views and 180,000 likes, and has been reshared by several other accounts on social media.
“The marketing team of Barbie needs a standing ovation,” one viewer writes.
Despite the exciting teaser, Dubai will be one of the slowest to bring the Barbie movie to its masses. For unspecified reasons, the film’s release has been delayed in the Middle East (that means there’s no Barbenheimer), though audiences can rest easy that it will be here for real on August 31.
Barbie’s marketing gets crazier by the day.
