Earlier this month, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) responded to the loss of Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo with a new campaign—tracking the emblem’s evolution over the years till its recent demise as a poignant reminder of actual endangered animals in the wild.

Now, the World Parrot Trust (WPT) has joined in with its own take on the “extinct” motif as part of its efforts to ensure the survival of the endangered Lear’s Macaw.

Titled #LetTheBlueBirdFly, the initiative hopes to persuade Twitter owner Elon Musk to breathe new life into the instantly recognizable blue bird by donating it to the WPT.

The donation would serve to support crucial initiatives in conservation, education, and the preservation of habitats vital for wildlife.

Starring at the heart of this endeavor is the aforementioned Lear’s Macaw—a species officially classified as endangered in the wild due to threats including habitat loss, hunting, and involvement in the wild bird trade.

Present estimates indicate that the global population of the bird stands at less than 1,700. Featuring in a video for the campaign, the feathered friend calls on supporters to join in on the action with the hashtag #LetTheBlueBirdFly.

“By embracing the spirit of #LetTheBlueBirdFly, we extend our commitment to preserving parrot species in their natural habitats and ensuring their thriving existence as companions,” explained Steve Milpacher, operations director, World Parrot Trust.

“Our campaign mirrors the very essence of our mission, underscoring the shared responsibility we all hold in safeguarding these remarkable creatures—much like the iconic Twitter blue bird.”
