To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in London, the automaker recently unveiled a sleek urban electric concept car known as the Nissan Concept 20-23.
This stylish new addition, which is named after the anniversary and “ni” (two) + “san” (three) in Japanese, culminates the journey with nods to the past and a glimpse into the future of automotive design.
Overall, the Concept 20-23 embodies a fusion of playful elements and a modern twist on small car aesthetics. Its exterior boasts a three-door hatchback body style, featuring aerodynamic enhancements both at the front and rear.
Deep skirts guide airflow away from the car’s front, keeping brakes cool and creating a visually striking profile.
From the front, the vehicle sports a clean, flat plane that extends upward to the hood, a unique feature that houses the front headlights. These headlights, made with LED technology, give the vehicle a distinctive appearance with their thin upper and lower semi-circular shape.
The sideview of the car exudes muscularity, thanks to extended wheel arches that elegantly house large wheels wrapped in low-profile tires, while the curvature of these wheel arches gives way to vents that manage airflow, reducing air resistance in the wheel bay.
Moving tothe rear, a large single-piece spoiler emerges seamlessly from the roof rail. This component, designed to enhance both aesthetics and performance, doesn’t compromise rear visibility—a common issue in sports cars with spoilers.
The vehicle’s rear lights also feature the signature thin upper and lower semi-circular LED design. However, the lower portion of the lights embraces a squared-off form designed for optimal airflow management and the creation of downforce.
The exterior of the car is painted in a textured grey finish, giving it a robust and durable appearance. Look closely, and one will find the number “23” proudly adorns the car's rear quarter panels, signifying its place in the Nissan legacy.
Through scissor doors, drivers and passengers can experience the interior of the concept, complete with deep bucket seats to offer both support and comfort. These seats are finished in a near-white color, reminiscent of racing car aesthetics.
Insider, there’s a long, extended steering column with a rectangular sports steering wheel adorned with various controls and adjustments. Paddles for adjusting the electric powertrain’s performance and additional switches are easily accessible behind the wheel.
“The young team here at NDE was given a simple brief: design a fun electric city car that you’d like to drive every day in London,” explained Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for global design at Nissan.
“The 20-23 Concept that they designed is a compact hatchback which is strongly influenced by the online racing world. I love the story it tells about how the worlds of modern city living, online gaming and zero emissions mobility intersect.”
