Last year, Space Perspective, the company behind the world’s first luxury space lounge—Spaceship Neptune—offered a sneak peek inside its carbon-neutral spaceflight experiences. Now, it has unveiled the design for its restroom in orbit, aptly named the Space Spa.
The Space Spa, situated within the spacious capsule interior, which can comfortably fit eight tourists and a Captain, promises to surpass the facilities typically found in first-class airplane cabins.
It will serve as a personal oasis for space travelers, granting them solace during their collective journey.
“Having a proper and beautifully designed restroom contributes significantly to the accessible and unique experience we are offering and accentuates the incredible views of the deep blackness of space, the brilliant thin blue line of our atmosphere, the stars above, and the Earth below,” quipped founder Jane Poynter.
Dan Window, who leads the design efforts at Space Perspective alongside Isabella Trani, explained their vision for the Space Spa, stating the firm aimed to create an environment that was more akin to a spa than a regular aircraft experience.
As such, the Space Spa’s aesthetics incorporate softness, optimistic color tones, and light washes to create an ambiance that complements the breathtaking views from its two windows while providing passengers with an immersive environment in which to take a break.
Within its confines, explorers will be greeted with soothing soundscapes while enjoying much-needed solitude. Plants will feature as part of the décor, paying homage to the experiences of Space Perspective’s founders within Biosphere 2.
In terms of practicality, the “cocooning” environment, which will feature no sharp edges, ensures cleanliness with surfaces that can be easily wiped down. The addition of greenery and soft surfaces addresses sound and odor control.
Aside from the Space Spa, those on board the Spaceship Neptune can look forward to amenities, including a world-class food and beverage program, comfortable seating, custom headphones, amenity kits, and even Wi-Fi.
