Casio is putting the “everything is cake” trend to shame with… erasers.
That’s right. Can you believe those are pieces of stationery, and not actual timepieces? As part of its extensive 40th-birthday celebration for the G-SHOCK watches, the brand is giving out erasers delicately molded to faithfully resemble the DW-5600, as first spotted by G-Central.

The useful mini-mes are 60% the size of their muses, and unsurprisingly, they can’t tell time. While they’re thinner than the erasers you’re used to, their detachable bands allow you to slip in your fingers for a good grip.

Casio is a master of crafting miniaturized versions of its timepieces. Months back, it reimagined classic watches as adorable, ultrarealistic rings.

In the case of the DW-5600-inspired erasers, they also commemorate the first time G-SHOCK filed a three-dimensional trademark with the Japan Patent Office without any logo or text.
Casio explains that it chose to make erasers for the tribute as tourists often take these objects home as souvenirs. Often shaped like things such as zoo animals and food, they’re a hallmark of Japanese perfection, the brand details.

The erasers are available in a trio of colors, including the classic black. The additional yellow and red are nods to the fascination with primary hues in street culture during the model’s heyday.

The erasers come free with any purchase of an eligible watch from the brand’s online store, with colors chosen at random.
What may rub watch collectors from other parts of the world the wrong way, however, is that the promotion is only exclusive to Japan.
