McDonald’s encourages less talk, more action among eaters in its amusing new holiday commercial for 2023 that revives the animated eyebrows which have become a staple in recent campaigns.
Created by advertising agency Leo Burnett and directed by Shannon Murphy, the film, entitled Fancy a McDonald’s this Christmas?, sees people of all walks of life—including Santa—abandon their festive rituals. With train cancellations disrupting their boring plans, everyone marches down to the beloved fast-food restaurant for comfort.
The video expands on McDonald’s UK’s Raise Your Arches series, where the brand’s logo and meals are famously replaced with a different set of arches: brows.
The actual Golden Arches appear more subtly in the film, guiding the gaze to song lyrics in a karaoke video and only emerging in full near a McDonald’s location at the end.

Set to Van Halen’s 1984 Jump, the spot is also one big tribute to Love Actually, and the muse is made most evident in a playful re-enacting of the cue card scene.
It’s cheerful, busy, and kind of chaotic—everything you’d expect from the holiday season.
