With every iPhone cycle, your old models are often stuffed into drawers, left in there to be forgotten. While stuck with them in life, their covers do not need to follow them in death. The iGreen Cover, created by eco gadget brand iGreen Gadgets, is a fully compostable smartphone accessory that’s embedded with seeds, making it the first and only iPhone case in the world that can be planted after use.
In its afterlife, the smartphone case begins its mission to make the world a greener place. How? By allowing you to plant it after use and watch flowers and plants sprout from it.

Constructed from 100% natural components, the accessory has cornstarch as its core material. This organic compound not only provides strength to the case but also nourishes the seeds hidden within its structure. Yes, you read that right; it contains seeds, which make the case truly compostable. The roots of the growing plants feed on the cornstarch, helping it dissolve and return to the earth faster.

Instead of throwing the cover away, you can plant it in the soil. As the case decomposes, it releases the seeds, enabling you to grow herbs or flowers directly from the discarded cover. Available in three colors crafted from natural pigments, each version is associated with its relevant seed: green for basil, yellow for daisies, and light blue for forget-me-nots.

To plant the iGreen Cover, simply bury it at a 30-degree angle in the ground. The seeds within are safeguarded by a water-soluble film that dissolves upon contact with moisture, setting them free to take root.
Meant to raise awareness about the footprint of plastic phone covers on the environment, the cover is a tangible response to the issue of non-recoverable waste generated when we don’t give a second thought to tech gear.
