Ever find yourself gazing at a piece of art and pondering what goes on in the mind of the artist? Well, Google Arts & Culture’s game, Say What You See, flips the script a little by asking you to pick the brain of artificial intelligence.
Launched in November and recently discovered by 9to5Google, Say What You See positions an AI-generated image on one side of your screen, setting the stage for a game of visual wit. Visitors are then invited to concoct a prompt, up to 120 characters, aiming to think like the machine and replicate the displayed image through Google’s own AI engine.

As you type in your guess and hit enter, the anticipation builds for up to 30 seconds before Google reveals an illustration composed from your own words to see how well it matches up to the original.

With each round, players sharpen their skills in visual interpretation and precise language, with a minimum visual similarity percentage required to get to the next puzzle. But as you advance, so does the challenge, demanding an even closer match to the original masterpiece.
Instead of leaving users to flounder, the game provides hints and tips to refine their prompts after each attempt. Whether it’s incorporating shapes, textures, or art styles, these suggestions aren’t just about getting a better score—they’re about understanding how AI interprets creative instructions.
It’s not every day you get to communicate with an AI about the nuances of visual art, making this quiz a delightful blend of challenge and learning. Play it here.
