IKEA is imbuing homes with a whimsical assortment of colors, without actually painting on walls, with the launch of the TESAMMANS collection, announced at Paris Fashion Week. Saturated to life by Dutch design duo Raw Color, this wondrous range dips into the power of color to transform spaces and moods, comprising joyful essentials to “color the everyday.”

TESAMMANS fearlessly explores how colors interact with light, materials, and each other to enhance our surroundings. IKEA and Raw Color, with the latter known for its affinity with minimal shapes and graphic lines, have swirled their expertise to create 18 products splashed in surprising yet harmonious palettes, ranging from carafes, pillows, clocks, cushion covers, and throws to rugs and side tables.

“Colors are fascinating as they do not exist alone. They are dependent on light and other colors. Much like people, they relate to the world around them,” IKEA expresses, emphasizing the collection’s focus on the relational and dynamic nature of color.

“It’s like a recipe; you must find the right balance to make an object sparkle!” chimes in Christoph Brach, co-founder of Raw Color.

This approach has resulted in traditionally mismatched combinations that mix bright, saturated shades with more muted tones—think lilac with mustard brown and cobalt blue—and fun patterns, creating an inviting and lively atmosphere in any home.

The throw, for one, plays a clever visual trick of color interaction. From a distance, its graphic lines and solid colors appear to merge into a single hue, but as you draw closer, the intricate blend of two tones becomes apparent.

The side table, crafted from corrugated steel sheets, is a vivid multifunctional piece that doubles as a storage unit. The lid lifts to reveal room for those bits and bobs that otherwise clutter a living space. Its design, characterized by bold tones and a ridged texture, creates a moiré effect that’s both captivating and practical.

The two-sided TESAMMANS rug is another highlight, set to floor homeowners and guests with its striking stripes. Handmade from 100% wool, this statement piece is not only durable but also reversible, promising extended use.

Illumination plays a crucial role in setting the atmosphere of a space, and the TESAMMANS table lamp does just that. Its conical, stacked design transitioning from dark shades to highlights creates a captivating play of reflections and shadows.

Another arresting item is the hanging decoration, crafted to catch the light and deliver a dynamic display of changing shapes and hues. This piece, offering a sophisticated yet playful touch, invites the beholder to pause and reflect.

Truly pushing visual boundaries is the cart that’s seemingly made up of color-blocked crates. Not only is it built for storage, but it can also be rolled around to inject some vibrancy and functionality into unused corners at any time.

Tealight holders, trays, napkins, and drinkware in this spectrum are perfect for those looking to add subtle touches of warmth and optimism to their abodes.

Beyond aesthetics, the TESAMMANS range encourages homeowners to embrace color in their daily surroundings. You don’t have to be a maximalist to dabble in these palettes.

“We hope that this collection will bring some positivity to people’s homes, and that we can also challenge them to apply some color in their spaces. Sometimes, people can be scared of using it, with white interiors becoming more default,” notes Daniera ter Haar, the other half of Raw Color.
