Barbie’s putting on the glitz for her 65th birthday! Mattel has released a special ‘Incredibly Glamorous’ doll, a stylish tribute to the original 1959 Barbie that started it all.
Rather than being a straight-up replica, this anniversary edition is a fashion fusion, rocking a stunning black and white ballgown with a modern twist. The flowing striped skirt evokes the classic swimsuit look from the original doll but with an undeniably glamorous touch.

Cat-eye sunglasses and a voluminous half-up, half-down hairstyle complete the picture.

Describing the doll as “incredibly glamorous, gorgeous, and modern,” Kim Culmone, senior design vice president at Mattel, reveals that it incorporates special details for collectors, like subtle nods to Barbie’s history.

There are two variations of the anniversary doll—blonde and brunette—each capturing elements of the original Barbie’s iconic style with a touch of contemporary elegance. The designer, Carlyle Nuera, drew inspiration from the No. 1 Barbie’s look when crafting the gown, with its fitted swimwear-like bodice that cascades into a dramatic striped skirt.

Sharp sapphire accents—the birthstone for March—add another layer of symbolism. Sparkling sapphire earrings, eye makeup, and even the doll’s sunglasses incorporate this gem’s theme.

The introduction of the Incredibly Glamorous doll coincides with another exciting rollout from Mattel: a collection of eight Barbie Role Models honoring inspiring women who use their platforms for positive change. These resemble notable figures like actresses Dame Helen Mirren and Viola Davis, singer-songwriters Shania Twain and Kylie Minogue, and international figures like indigenous content creator Maira Gomez and Mexican filmmaker Lila Avilés.
The 65th birthday dolls are priced at US$60 and are available in the US, Mexico, Australia, and the UK.
