Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is back, and this year it’s set to run from June 10 to 14, 2024. While developers around the world will be tuning in online for the latest tools and advancements, the keynote address promises a sneak peek at the next generation of Apple’s operating systems—iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 14, and more.
Additionally, WWDC24 will connect developers working on apps and games to Apple experts, as well as provide them with insight into new tools, frameworks, and features. An in-person experience on June 10, with limited allocations, will see developers meet with Apple team members and join in on special activities.

WWDC 2024 could mark a significant shift towards artificial intelligence for Apple. Insiders have noted that major AI upgrades are in store for iOS 18, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hailing them as possibly the “biggest updates in iPhone’s history.” We might see advancements in Siri’s capabilities, improved image recognition for the Photos app, and even a glimpse into Apple’s ambitions for generative AI, a technology capable of creating realistic text, code, or images.
For users yearning for a more customized home screen, iOS 18 will likely deliver. Reports hint at a substantial overhaul that grants users greater control over app placement and widget integration.
For those with mixed-device circles, new Rich Communication Services (RCS) support in iOS 18’s Messages app could break down those walls, leading to smoother communication between iPhones and Android devices. This update could revolutionize group chats by enabling features like cross-platform emoji reactions, read receipts, and real-time typing indicators.
iPadOS 18
Improved multitasking features are said to be coming to iPadOS 18, simplifying handoffs between the tablet and laptop experience and making iPads even more versatile for productivity tasks.
A headset on the horizon? Don’t count on it
While Apple unveiled the mixed-reality Vision Pro at WWDC last year, the tech giant usually reserves major hardware announcements for separate events. It’s also too soon for it to introduce significant changes to its headset category.

Beyond iOS and iPadOS, Apple is anticipated to unveil a comprehensive software refresh. Updates for macOS 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, HomePod Software 18, and even visionOS 2.0 are on the roadmap.
Apple’s AI efforts might extend beyond iPhones, with advancements in the Xcode development environment and iWork applications. Features like predictive coding and automation could streamline workflows for developers.
Rumors regarding the M3 chip powering the next generation of Mac Studios and Mac Pros remain unconfirmed, however.
Where to watch
Apple enthusiasts can catch the WWDC keynote address via the Apple Developer app, website, or YouTube channel throughout the week of June 10 to 14.
