Faber-Castell takes a pencil-sharp turn on smartphone cameras with crisp graphite-made pictures that could very well be photos. Night mode or burst mode? Scratch that—literally.
Apple’s long-running Shot on iPhone campaign has become synonymous with stunning smartphone photography, showcasing ever-improving camera technology with each iteration. But what if you don’t have to trade up your trusty phone to capture brilliant images at all? Better still, the perfect tool might be sitting in your drawer. DAVID São Paulo has put colored pencil to paper with clever Shot on Faber-Castell advertisements on billboards and metro stations in São Paulo.

Instead of boasting megapixels, Shot on Faber-Castell touts hyperrealism and imagination with high-res, whimsical illustrations of a rather regal cat, lemons against a dramatically lit backdrop, and a piece of toast with silly tan lines. There’s even a black-and-white still of a two strategically-posed zebras and their glorious stripes—no monochromatic filter necessary.

The agency’s friendship with Faber-Castell Brazil goes way back, with numerous award-winning campaigns emerging from their 12-year partnership.
Even in the age of smartphones, there’s something undeniably special about the tactile experience and artistic freedom that comes with scribbling on a piece of paper. These captivating visuals remind everyone of the raw creative power that lies at your fingertips (well, maybe not literally in this case).
