Zaha Hadid Architects, the world-renowned architectural firm, has bottled up some of its genius for The Dalmore. Its latest construction—made to stand on tables, not grounds—is The Dalmore Luminary No.2 Rare Sculpture, an impressive glass piece designed to hold and showcase a bottle of single malt whisky.
The project, led by Zaha Hadid Architects associate director Melodie Leung, marks a continuation of The Dalmore’s effort to support the V&A Dundee museum, following a timber sculpture by Kengo Kuma in 2022. Leung’s masterpiece, inspired by the whisky-making process, sees a sculpture reflecting the movement and transformation involved in crafting The Dalmore’s renowned single malt. Created with the help of The Glass Foundry, the sculpture required over 500 hours of polishing and four months in the kiln to achieve its intricate form.

Despite the complexity of its make, which incorporates layers of amber cast glass to symbolize the whisky’s aging process, the sculpture was initially met with skepticism by glass producers due to its ambitious structure. However, The Glass Foundry took on the challenge, producing a piece that not only represents the distillation and swirling motion of whisky but also stands as a mark of craftsmanship.
In addition to its artistic value, The Dalmore Luminary No.2 Rare edition, a 49-year-old single malt whisky, underscores the importance of time in crafting premium whisky. The collection also features a 16-year-old Collectible edition, offering whisky lovers a taste of The Dalmore’s expertise.
This collaboration is not just a celebration of whisky and architecture but also a philanthropic endeavor. A set including one of the rare decanters and the glass sculpture will be auctioned at a Sotheby’s sale in May, with all proceeds going to V&A Dundee.
