IKEA has sought to make life at home beautiful for families—but what is a home if you don’t have a roof over your head? In a charming initiative, the furniture giant’s UK wing is connecting rescue pets with purr-tential forever homes through adorable lookbooks called the Cat-alog and Dog-alog.
While IKEA’s official catalogs are a thing of the past, it’s (somewhat) bringing the concept back for goodwill with edits of cats and dogs available for adoption, posing alongside the company’s first-ever pet furniture range, UTSÅDD.

This campaign speaks of a significant rise of the abandonment of domestic animals. Woodgreen, the pet charity that IKEA UK is partnering with for the project, has reported a 62% increase in rejected animals and a staggering 253% year-on-year increase in pet surrenders due to financial difficulties in 2023, largely driven by the rising cost of living. Last year, the charity helped 8,821 pets find new homes or receive necessary care. Through this tie-in, IKEA aims to support the nonprofit’s mission to provide safe shelter and specialized care to thousands of pets.

The UTSÅDD collection, developed with input from veterinarians and pet experts, includes 29 pieces catering to the most common activities of cats and dogs: eating, sleeping, playing, and hiding.

These lookbooks not only showcase IKEA’s new pet series but also highlight the lovable pets ready for adoption.

“At IKEA, we believe that pets are family,” expresses IKEA spokesperson Michaela Quinlan. “Our goal was to develop a collection of products that our cats and dogs love and that their human parents can feel good about and truly enjoy having as part of their home. We hope this partnership not only raises awareness of adoptions but also provides solutions and inspiration of how to create a comfortable living space for furry companions.”

Fiona Cooke, head of specialist services at Woodgreen, highlights the importance of creating spaces for pets to feel safe and happy, both at the rehoming center and in their new homes: “Every pet deserves a loving home where they feel safe and happy. It’s so important that dogs and cats have spaces to rest and call their own, as well as opportunities to play and have fun… We’re absolutely delighted to be partnering with IKEA to raise awareness of what we do, and celebrate rescue pets of all shapes and sizes!”

In addition to monetary donations, IKEA has donated all featured furniture to Woodgreen to enhance the quality of life for pets awaiting adoption.

The UTSÅDD collection itself is available online and in stores, inviting pet owners to create comfortable and stylish spaces for their furry friends. Inspired by Scandinavian design, it stylishly ensures pets have comfortable and engaging spaces with items like well-thought-out pet beds, houses, scratching posts, and toys.
