Liquid Death is nosediving further into its storm cloud of out-of-the-world campaigns, often tinged with dark humor, to quench fans’ thirst for adrenaline and adventure. The brand has announced it will give away a custom-painted fighter jet, valued at $400,000, to one lucky fan.

The aircraft in question, an Aero L-39C Albatros, has been humorously dubbed ‘The Dehydrator’ in reference to its powerful thrust, which the canned mountain water brand claims can “relieve you of your bodily fluids and make you empty your stomach.”

This high-flying contest is a playful nod to Pepsi’s infamous jet giveaway in the 1990s, which ended in a lawsuit and spawned a Netflix docuseries. Unlike the soda giant, which offered a Harrier jet as a contest prize but later backtracked due to legal challenges, Liquid Death assures participants in its contest FAQs that its giveaway is “100% real” and won’t require a courtroom battle to claim the prize.

The Dehydrator is a decommissioned military training aircraft capable of reaching speeds up to 470 mph. While the jet no longer has weapon capabilities, it still promises an exhilarating ride, and it’s not just because of the built-in cockpit cup holder.

However, the winner will need to cover all expenses related to owning and operating the vehicle, including fuel and hiring a pilot if they aren’t licensed to fly.

Running until September 4, the sweepstakes calls upon fans to purchase a Liquid Death product in-store and upload a photo of their receipt to a dedicated website. Each receipt counts as an entry, increasing the chances for participants with each checkout.

In addition to the flying vehicle, the new owner will receive six months of free hangar space near Chicago, a year’s supply of Liquid Death, and an exclusive flight helmet. Liquid Death also plans to cover the sales tax for the plane.

For those less inclined to take to the skies, the campaign offers an alternative cash prize of US$250,000, delivered in a briefcase.
