Beauty might be in the AI of the beholder with the upcoming Miss AI pageant, the world’s first artificial intelligence beauty contest. Organized by the World AI Creator Awards (WAICA) in collaboration with subscription platform Fanvue, this novel event aims to showcase the cutting-edge creativity of AI-generated contestants. Now, the shortlist has been announced.
Instead of human contestants, competitors are wholly AI creations. With over 1,500 entries from creators across the globe, including the US, Africa, South America, India, Japan, South Korea, and Europe, the contest has attracted a diverse pool of talent. Judging the contestants are AI creators Aitana Lopez and Emily Pellegrini, pageantry historian Sally Ann Fawcett, and marketing and PR expert Andrew Bloch. They’ll be evaluating based on realism, technical prowess, and social influence.
The judges are looking for more than just a pretty face. They’ll assess traditional pageant qualities like appearance and poise, but will also award points for the technical skills and innovative use of AI tools in creating the contestants.
Among the notable entries is Kenza Layli from Morocco, a digital influencer with 186,000 Instagram followers, promoting women’s empowerment in the Middle East. Anne Kerdi from France uses her platform to boost tourism and ocean conservation in Brittany. Another standout is Aiyana Rainbow from Romania, an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and diversity.
Fawcett, a veteran judge of Miss Great Britain, expresses her excitement about the Miss AI pageant, noting the contestants’ realism and positive impact. “Being part of the world’s first AI pageant has been a fantastic experience,” she says. “The realism of each contestant and their individual stories and what they're doing to be a positive influence on the world really stood out to me.”
She asserts: “Like traditional pageantry, there is always more work to do for AI Creators to be more representative and champion real people, from all backgrounds, and all shapes, and sizes. Real-life pageantry has evolved over decades to become more inclusive and representative, which is something I’m really proud of but what’s exciting about this new form of pageantry is that AI creators can be part of this evolution on fast-forward thanks to technology.”
The top three finalists will be revealed at the end of June during an AI-generated awards ceremony. The winner of Miss AI will take home a prize package worth over US$20,000, including US$5,000 in cash, promotion on the Fanvue platform, and a dedicated publicist to expand their reach.
