Heineken is toasting to reducing trash with Waste-to-Wear. Coinciding with the debut of returnable bottles in South Africa, the beermaker has upcycled single-use bottles into chic pieces for your home and wardrobe.
The collection is an extension of Heineken South Africa’s Fields Green With Grass, Not Glass initiative, aimed to tackle two critical issues simultaneously: environmental impact and urban aesthetics. By repurposing broken glass “hotspots,” the project sought to beautify urban areas while addressing the ecological consequences of discarded glass bottles.
With the help of creative agency Sonic State, Heineken repurposed bottles collected from these “hotspots” into an array of stunning items. Among them were 3,000 rings, 3,000 medallions, and a unique collection of homeware, including dinner sets and a hops-inspired pendant light. Each piece bore the imprint of thoughtful design and environmental consciousness.
