The Biden-Harris HQ is now Kamala HQ. With US President Joe Biden stepping back from the electoral race, endorsing Vice President Kamala as his preferred successor, the duo’s official social media account has been rebranded to capture the energy and support for Harris’s presidential bid.
The revamped page now features a bold black and white logo with ‘Kamala HQ’ in comic-style block letters, giving it a fresh, modern look. This “rapid response page” is designed to provide context about Harris’s campaign, with a particular focus on connecting with Gen Z, as suggested by the new cover picture.
Probably the more surprising visual statement is the new cover image featuring a blurry lowercase “kamala hq” against a questionable green background. For the uninitiated, it’s a playful nod to Charli XCX’s Brat album, which inspired a meme and term “Brat Summer.”
The Harris campaign’s decision to embrace the meme is surprising, but not too surprising. In an interview with Vogue Singapore, Charli XCX herself described the green shade as “offensive, off-trend,” symbolizing a rebellious spirit that resonates with younger audiences. The Democratic hopeful is going head to head Donald Trump, now the oldest presidential candidate, and going against the grain with a refreshing approach is crucial.
The seemingly casual overhaul represents a contrast with Biden’s more traditional campaign strategy. By adopting this edgy and contemporary branding, Harris aims to engage the next generation of voters.
