MSCHF Bakes Up Scout Cookies Purely Meant For Resale & Making More Money

MSCHF, the art collective famous for its social commentary disguised as merchandise, has a new project that will probably leave a bad taste in many people’s mouths. It’s rolled out MSCHF Scout Cookies, a satirical take on the iconic cookie sales that define American youth commerce, with a hefty dose of capitalism critique on the side.

Clearly, these aren’t the Thin Mints you sold or nommed on as a kid. Sporting familiar but on-the-nose names like ‘Treasury Mints’, ‘Caramel Cashouts’, and ‘Peanut Butter Profits’, these snacks poke fun at the underlying motivations of those seemingly wholesome bites.

The packaging might be retro-chic, but beneath the sugary façade lies a scathing commentary on consumerism and the relentless pursuit of profit.

Unlike the Girl Scouts, MSCHF isn’t interested in building character through bake sales. Here, the “troop” is whoever buys a full sales kit, which includes a heaping 528 boxes of cookies (split between three flavors), four replica Scout uniforms, and a Scout's Sales Guide.

“MSCHF Scouts earn a profit by reselling MSCHF Scout Cookies at a markup. If you resell all 528 boxes of cookies for $15 each, you will net $6,296 in earnings!” the collective explains.

To put it simply, you’re in charge of turning a profit, and the pressure is on. “Close. The. Deal,” advises MSCHF, channeling the ruthless spirit of Wall Street, not a community center.

The irony is delicious. The more the cookies are resold, the higher their value, yet they become less edible. It’s a twisted reflection of the American Dream, where success is measured in profit margins, not badges earned. But hey, if pushing hundreds of cookies to other suckers doesn’t appeal, you could just “eat them all yourself,” MSCHF says. “We would respect that."

The collection extends beyond the boxes themselves. Individual pieces of scout gear like sashes and neckerchiefs are also available. It’s a complete package, a satirical costume for the ambitious entrepreneur in all of us.

But beneath the sugarcoated layers of irony and critique, a serious question lingers: what are we really selling, and at what cost?  As we chomp on these cookies, MSCHF forces us to confront the price tag of the American Dream.
