IKEA is turning its attention away from flatpack furniture to flat-out relaxation for once. The furniture giant is hosting a slumber party for the whole city of New York—The IKEA Sleepeasy.
For two weekends in August, New Yorkers can trade their concrete jungles for a dreamland. IKEA, taking inspiration from speakeasies, has dreamed up a Swedish-style bodega that serves as a sleep sanctuary, complete with interactive zones dedicated to the six pillars of shut-eye: comfort, light, temperature, sound, air quality, and decluttering.
Guests will enter through a hidden door found inside of a reimagined Swedish bodega. Inside the attraction features larger-than-life experiences, which highlight the six sleep essentials. As shoppers journey through this immersive, multi-level exhibit throughout the weekend, they can enjoy live music, headphones only discos, IKEA food and other Instagrammable moments.
Tania Moreira, IKEA US’s bedroom business manager, says the popup event is all about showcasing how its new range of affordable products can help you catch more Zzz’s. Think mattresses, comforters, and even air purifiers—everything you need for a good night’s sleep, without breaking the bank.
“With the support of our extensive life at home research and studies, IKEA offers a complete range of products to help people improve their sleep quality. The products correlate with each of the six sleep essentials and vary based on individual needs,” shares Moreira. “The IKEA Sleepeasy is a fun way to showcase how they can sleep better with affordable and quality products.”
So, if you’re tired of counting sheep, consider heading to the IKEA Sleepeasy at 51 Crosby St in SoHo, which is free to enter for all family members from August 8 to 11 and August 15 to 18. Operating hours are Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Just don’t blame the Swedish company if you fall asleep there.
