Dove Debuts Unretouched Photography Book Honoring Authenticity In All Forms

For two decades, Dove has flung a wrecking ball against narrow beauty ideals. Now, it’s paving the way for a new chapter with the introduction of the Reimagine Beauty Book.
This latest initiative comes on the heels of the brand’s research, which paints a complex picture of progress and persistent challenges. While 43% of women and 47% of girls report feeling better represented in media, a staggering 73% still believe advertising sets unattainable beauty standards.

The Reimagine Beauty Book is a collaborative effort between Dove, Getty Images, and author Emma Dabiri. At its core, the book is a celebration of diversity and authenticity. Photographer Mihaela Noroc, known for her Atlas of Beauty project, has curated a collection of unretouched images featuring over 60 women from around the globe. Each photograph is accompanied by personal stories, creating a powerful narrative that champions “beauty autonomy.”

Beyond its visual impact, the book serves a greater purpose. All profits from its sale will support the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, furthering efforts to empower young women globally.

Recognizing the growing influence of artificial intelligence in shaping beauty standards, Dove also unveiled the Real Beauty Prompt Playbook, which aims to address the potential pitfalls of AI-generated imagery in perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards. By providing users with inclusive prompting techniques for popular AI programs, the beauty brand hopes to move the digital realm into a space for diverse representation rather than further distortion of beauty standards.
As the digital age continues to evolve, such efforts serve as a reminder that beauty is not a one-size-fits-all concept, and that true beauty lies in embracing our unique stories and appearances, rather than conforming to artificial standards.
