While artificial intelligence paints its strokes across the world, one creative tech giant is refusing to let it into its scapes. Procreate, a go-to iPad app for digital artists, has put its foot down on the use of generative AI, making key choices that set it apart from competitors like Adobe.
In a candid video addressing users’ concerns about possible AI training, Procreate CEO James Cuda didn’t mince words about his feelings towards the technology in art. “I really f**king hate generative AI,” he stated bluntly. “I don’t like what’s happening in the industry and I don’t like what it’s doing to artists.”
Cuda added that the software would not be introducing generative AI to its offerings. “Our products are always designed and developed with the idea that a human will be creating something,” he explained.
On its website, the company has newly outlined three commitments: no generative AI, ensuring user privacy, and maintaining that users’ work belongs solely to them.

With these promises, Procreate is distancing itself from industry greats that have integrated AI with open arms.
While Cuda admits uncertainty about where this choice will take the company, he remains confident that uplifting human creativity is the right path forward.
