Crafting a brighter future, IKEA has unveiled the second rollout of its MÄVINN collection, celebrating the artistry of craftspeople from Bangladesh, India, and Jordan.

MÄVINN’s latest lineup—following the success of 2023’s edition—gathers 17 colorful handcrafted products created by artisans from five social businesses: Classical Handmade Products in Bangladesh, Ramesh Flowers, Rangsutra, and SPUN in India, and the Jordan River Foundation in Jordan. Each piece tells a story of cultural heritage while providing employment opportunities for individuals in vulnerable communities.

The array includes baskets, rugs, bags, pillows, blankets, robes, and hanging flower holders that are handwoven, braided, or embroidered using locally sourced jute or cotton.

Despite being steeped in tradition, they’ll brighten up contemporary households while remaining completely versatile. Take, for example, the basket with feline ears, which can also double as a cat bed.

Over the past 12 years, IKEA has worked with social enterprises to generate work and training for 11,000 individuals, with a focus on empowering women and marginalized groups. This translates to more job opportunities and financial independence.

“MÄVINN showcases craft techniques passed down through generations, and it’s amazing to create together and learn from each other with these artisans who have kept these traditions alive,” shares Paulin Machado, a designer at IKEA of Sweden. She emphasizes the selection’s role in tying traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles.

The latest MÄVINN collection is set to grace IKEA stores around the world and online starting September 2024. The launch will occur in two phases, with the second half of the collection making its debut in December.
