Apple has just made iPhone repairs a little less sticky, thanks to a new innovation that’s getting noticed for its simplicity and effectiveness. In a recent teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro, iFixit uncovered a “revolutionary” shift in how the tech giant handles battery removal, swapping out the standard pull tabs for a clever adhesive that debonds with the help of a low electrical current.
This updated process allows for faster and cleaner battery replacements, shaving the task down to just about 90 seconds. iFixit’s Shahram Mokhtari gave the change a thumbs-up, even calling the new adhesive tab “a little bit magic.” With a smoother removal process, it looks like battery swaps won’t be quite as cumbersome they used to be.
Apple has beenmore accommodating to users’ right-to-repair demands with the iPhone 16 series. The battery removal method is just one piece of the puzzle, albeit a significant one, earning a seven out of 10 on iFixit’s repairability scale.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro comes with an improved thermal management system. Better heat dissipation means the phone should perform more consistently over time, with less risk of overheating during demanding tasks.
