Coperni’s latest creation makes quite the splash. The fashion brand unveiled its ‘Ariel Swipe’ bag, a nod to The Little Mermaid and her life underwater, during its Spring/Summer 2025 show held at Disneyland Paris.
Produced by Rapid Liquid Print (RLP), a company born from MIT’s Gravity Free Manufacturing, the Ariel Swipe bag is crafted from platinum-cured, recyclable silicone. Unlike traditional 3D-printing methods that rely on layering, RLP’s approach is far more fluid—literally.
The process involves printing in a water-based gel, allowing for soft, stretchable designs without being weighed down by gravity. No floundering here, for sure.
What’s more, the environmentally conscious production process skips over the need for post-processing, meaning the bag is ready for use as soon as it’s printed.
This piece is an extension of Coperni’s previous invention, the Air Swipe Bag, which used NASA-produced silica aerogel—a material made of 99% air and 1% glass, renowned as the lightest solid on Earth.
Founded by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, Coperni has made a name for itself by merging fashion and technology in striking, avant-garde ways. Who could forget the viral spray-on dress worn by Bella Hadid during Paris Fashion Week in 2022?
In addition to the mermaid-inspired bag, Coperni’s Disneyland Paris show also featured playful, Disney-themed pieces, such as Mickey Mouse-shaped shoes and a Maleficent hoodie, adding a magical touch to the already whimsical lineup. Not a drop of innovation wasted!
